FALL INTO WINTER FLIPBOOK - Flipbook - Page 13
There’s a long history of literary lunches
at the 107 Charing Cross Road store. In the
1930s, founder Christina Foyle arranged special
luncheons so that famous authors could mingle
with their readers. Today, the bookshop is the
home to various bookish events, including the
East and South East Asian literary Festival and
the K-Book Festival.
If you want a full sit-down meal with your
literary heroes, you’ll need to look further afield,
at Gliterary Lunches in London, Manchester,
Glasgow and Edinburgh, or supper clubs at
hotels like the Dorchester, where this winter the
infamous China Tang restaurant will play host
to bestselling historian Paul French, who reveals
Wallis Simpson’s vivid years in 1920s Shanghai,
and award-winning writer Fuchsia Dunlop,
who looks at the nuances of Chinese culinary
traditions.
