A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
Maven
(noun):
one who is experienced and knowledgeable; expert.
Also, a freak.
Welcome to Issue 1 of BANGLE, a dedicated Arts, Travel and Lifestyle magazine for
culture vultures and maven ravens. With creatives more and more reliant on temperamental
digital platforms for expression, connection and promotion, I wanted to create a space which
felt less transient, a not-so-round (and slightly malleable) table where we can share stories,
visions, dreams and ideas without interference from fickle algorithms.
BANGLE will appear twice-yearly to begin with, as a flipbook and limited edition print
run, and my hope is to grow the magazine to a quarterly publication. With a community of
like-minded souls who love nothing better than to explore new horizons - whether that’s in
their minds or out in the big, bad world – my aim is to develop a unique hub for dreamers,
drifters and borderline bohemians. Can you tell I’m a Sagittarius?
This issue’s theme is Spring Feast. Flash fiction contributions played with the idea of
ritual feasts and metaphorical feasts: feasting on hope and despondency, feasting on life’s
many paradoxes. I’ve loved reading about sumptuous picnics, spurious relatives and squirrels
taking massive liberties. Huge thanks to my dear friend and lifesaver, Tom Evans, for supplying
digital renderings of his incredible oil paintings to complement the fiction section.
I’m also thrilled with the original cover art by Agnes Xanthippe Boman! Such talent.
Writers and artists, if you like what you see and you want to be part of something new
and exciting, please feel free to pitch ideas for Issue 2 on the theme of Grapevines.
Interpret as you will…
Bonne continuation!
